Voices in Germany a photo book by Feliza Estrada

Voices in Germany

I’m going with the Colorado State University Concert Choir on their tour through Germany as their photographer. I decided to create a photo book of the trip and make it available for sale.

I want this book to be a combination of all the knowledge that I’ve gained through the past two years at CSU-Pueblo. My skills are in photography, graphic design, and illustration. I want to experiment with with photography to create beautiful and interesting photos. My graphic design skills we be shown through my use of layouts and incorporation if my illustrations.

Ive been creating little illustrations and icons with ink. These will be present throughout the book. After I draw them I'll scan and vecotorize them onto Adobe Illustrator. There, I can adjust the color, size, and composition to where I need them.

Another use of my design work is my creation of the cover. I had fun creating the layout and splash effects in adobe Illustration. This took me about 3 hours to complete. I still have to design the spine and back cover.

I used some splash vectors with the colors of the German flag. I'm happy with how it turned out, it fits my style.

I think Garamond type is appropriate. at least it's not Helvetica. this is a rough of the cover design mounted on black matt board.

working with InDesign to create the cover of the book

The software I'm using to create the book is Adobe InDesign and Illustrator. To edit photos I prefer to use Adobe Lightroom.

I'm take my Nikon D7100 and D3200. I like shooting with two bodies so that I don't have be switching lenses as often if I just had one. Also if one body fails I still have another as backup.

As far as lenses, I'm taking a few zoom lenses

70-300 mm

55-200 mm

and a 18-55 mm

then 2 50mm lenses

a few lens attachments including a fish eye and macro attachment.
